ROLE PURPOSE
This role will be instrumental in setting the manufacturing equipment design strategy for battery and power pack industrialisation plans.
The individual will be instrumental in the design technologies around laser welding, laser sources, parameters, weld quality monitoring, weld penetration studies from concept through volume production. Create procedures of equipment maintenance and service, help create standardization efforts for spare parts for factories around the globe.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Design and implement processes & equipment to allow our client to grow battery production capacity
Specify laser welding equipment and develop processes based on product design requirements and tolerances.
Champion the various technologies around laser welding, Laser sources, parameters, weld quality monitoring, weld penetration studies from concept through volume production
Collaborate with suppliers to develop new advanced equipment
Develop equipment calibration and validation plans for prototype and production equipment
Coordinate with launch team to validate cell readiness and start of production
Development and delivery of process capability, through structured designed experiments and technical measures. Support FAT, SAT and commissioning of new equipment.
Provide the welding and metallurgy expertise on major manufacturing programme launches, from concept through to series manufacture. Support with welding developments for prototype manufacture.
Support the interface with OEMs/customers, battery systems design and engineering.
Support benchmarking and evaluation of process developments with customers and suppliers.
Translation of customer and product engineering requirements into detailed welding specifications.
Ensure all relevant Standards, Compliance and Regulatory requirements are adhered to.
Development and delivery of process capability, through structured designed experiments and technical measures. Training and mentoring of junior Engineers.
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or similar technical field.
Minimum 5 years’ experience gained in a mid / high volume manufacturing / production assembly environment in advanced manufacturing engineering role or similar technical role
Hands on work with laser welding and metal joining processes
Demonstrated experience specifying and launching battery manufacturing equipment
Hands on experience in in high and low volume manufacturing environments
Working understanding of manufacturing engineering metrics and concepts (Cycle time, quality control, efficiency, equipment selection, return on investment, etc).
Experience with failure analysis of battery modules
Experience managing a project with cost, safety, performance, and schedule metrics
Extensive knowledge of mid / high volume automation tools and techniques.
Extensive experience in specification and standards development.
Power beam welding technology and process development.
Development of WPS (weld procedure specification)
Materials science, pFMEA / Control Plan and Engineering change management
Strong written, verbal and interpersonal skills along with the ability to work at pace in a multi-project environment.
