PRINCIPAL ENGINEER

Baker and Baker Recruitment are representing a client in the Warwickshire region who are looking for a Principal Engineer to join their team on a permanent basis.

EXPERIENCE 


Develop, manage and lead a team of people in allocating workload and managing the day to day operations and deliverables within the CAD Engineering & ‘A’ Class Surfacing team.


It requires the job holder to co-ordinate resources and liaise with internal and external key contacts to ensure work is delivered on time and to a quality standard



KEY RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Responsible for job allocation and job flow in the department including job scheduling and labour allocation for day to day operations.

  • Work closely with other managers to ensure the smooth progress of job throughout the business.

  • Co-ordinate resources, (operational and human) schedules and activities to effectively manage jobs.

  • Support business growth by developing the department to cover all aspects of ‘A’ surface and ‘B’ construction digital CAD models.

  • Develop a strategy to support the efficient delivery of work packages utilizing both internal and external resources ensuring all business targets and goals are achieved.

  • Manage all hardware & software needs within the department ensuring compliance with software licencing.

  • Managing the creation and release of production-feasible, aesthetically optimised surfaces to support project delivery.

  • Act as a technical adviser on new business development, key projects and other areas of the business as requested.

  • Assist with quoting, project management, materials, purchasing and quality checks.

  • Ensure all cost, time and quality targets for the individual project and department are achieved and maintained.

  • Ensure engineering & surfacing team have effective targets which are monitored for effectiveness and efficiency.

  • Regularly report progress on each job and quickly communicate delays or concerns with the Technical Director. Report on resource overruns or shortfalls.

  • Drive the Lean & QM systems within the department, liaise with relevant managers ensuring all aspects are managed and maintained.

  • Provide feedback to staff that are not performing to the expected level and ensure human resources are informed of trends in performance.

  • Promote a Lean Methodology culture within the department and business.

  • Responsible for ensuring that the Function operates in accordance with site policies and procedures in respect of Health and Safety, in order to ensure the safety of employees and visitors.


EXPERIENCE & SKILLS


  • Evidence of strong People Management and Leadership skills in a variety of situations associated with product delivery.

  • Extensive experience within Automotive production ‘A’ class surfacing, physical models and prototypes

  • Catia, Alias, ICEM experience within the automotive industry

  • Demonstrate sensitivity to design and clear understanding of engineering needs

  • Strong record of ability to manage and mentor apprentices and semi-skilled staff.

  • Strong record of ability to deal with conflicting targets and achievement of successful delivery to quality, cost and time

  • Knowledge of Catia, Project Management and Product Planning processes

  • Understanding of manufacturing systems and processes to support business finding innovative breakthroughs.

  • Preferable to have a qualification Level 4 or above in Engineering and Management
