ROLE PURPOSE
The Senior Functional Safety Engineer is an integral member of the Test and Simulation Team, responsible for ensuring the design of systems adhere to Functional Safety standards and requirements such as ISO 26262 for automotive or IEC 61508 for industrial applications. Functional Safety will involve verification and validation of the design and architecture of safety-critical systems that incorporate multiple safety components while maintaining the highest level of safety and reliability. The Senior Functional Safety Engineer is also responsible for test planning, test design, test execution, test results and test reports that are drawn from the verification, validation and testing activities. The Senior Functional Safety Engineer will support the Engineering Manager Certification, Test and Simulation and VP of Engineering.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Core Functional Safety delivery across multiple projects
Developing ISO 26262 products at the OEM-level - Item definition, Hazard Analysis & Risk Assessments (HARA), Fault Tree Analyses (FTA), Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Functional & Technical Safety concepts and requirements
Developing ISO 26262 supporting documentation, safety plans, safety cases and safety analyses (e.g. FTA)
Supporting the Firmware Team with the development of working processes to meet ISO 26262
Performing gap analyses for new and existing systems
Developing safety validation strategies (Plans and Specifications)
Supporting/Performing safety goal validation testing
Performing Verification review activities
Supporting Development Activities
Supporting the education of engineering teams in the development of the Functional Safety capability & culture.
Supporting with the development of process implementation for Functional Safety
Supporting with the Functional Safety strategy and research projects that look forward to ensuring a state-of-the-art Functional Safety capability
Supporting the Engineering function to develop electric systems specifications, according to Functional Safety Standards
Maintain a safe, clean, and orderly environment reflective of HSE principles
Any other reasonable duties, as requested by your manager
All test activities are completed in accordance with standards both internal and external
All QHSE aspects of work completed and directed within personal work packages
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
A degree in an appropriate Engineering discipline (preferably Masters)
Ideally chartered
Experience in an engineering development environment, preferably sectors where testing of electrical machines is prominent (such as Automotive)
Proven experience in writing technical reports in accordance with verification and validation procedures
Relevant experience of integrated system testing
Experience in ISO 26262 functional safety
Experience in IEC 61508 for industrial Safety
Good relevant experience of working in a Systems Engineering environment within the Automotive Sector, transportation or safety industries
Working knowledge in safety analysis (HARA, FMEA, FTA, FMEDA, DFA)
IT skills including email, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and MRP software
Full driving licence and own vehicle insured for business use
