Battery Disassembly & Cell Discharge Operator

Salary: £28,000 – £32,000 per annum (Depending on Experience)
About the Role
We are seeking a motivated and safety-conscious Battery Disassembly & Cell Discharge Operator to support the safe decommissioning, disassembly, discharge, inspection, and processing of lithium-ion battery packs, modules, and cells. Working within our battery recycling and remanufacturing operation, you will play a key role in ensuring batteries are safely prepared for testing, refurbishment, repurposing, or recycling.
The successful candidate will work to strict safety and quality standards while supporting the recovery of valuable battery components and materials.
Important: Due to the use of powerful magnets within the working environment, candidates must be able to safely work around strong magnetic fields. This role may not be suitable for individuals with pacemakers or other magnet-sensitive implanted medical devices
Key Responsibilities
Health, Safety & Compliance
Follow all health, safety, environmental, and risk management procedures.
Work safely with high-voltage battery systems and potentially hazardous materials.
Ensure correct use of PPE, tools, and equipment.
Maintain a clean, organised, and safe working environment.
Report safety concerns, incidents, near misses, and equipment faults.
Support compliance with company procedures and industry regulations.
Battery Disassembly Operations
Safely dismantle battery packs, modules, and components using approved procedures.
Remove covers, electrical connections, and mechanical assemblies.
Identify and segregate reusable, repairable, and recyclable components.
Handle battery components safely to prevent damage or safety incidents.
Support battery strip-down activities for engineering investigations and product assessments.
Cell Discharge & Testing
Operate battery discharge equipment and test systems.
Safely discharge cells, modules, and battery packs prior to handling or recycling.
Monitor discharge processes and record test results.
Conduct visual inspections and basic electrical measurements.
Identify damaged, faulty, or non-conforming cells and components.
Accurately label and document battery status throughout the process.
Materials Handling & Inventory
Support the movement, storage, and segregation of batteries and components.
Maintain accurate records of incoming and processed materials.
Assist with stock control and inventory management.
Ensure hazardous and non-hazardous waste streams are correctly managed.
Quality & Documentation
Complete production, processing, and test documentation accurately.
Carry out quality inspections throughout the disassembly and discharge process.
Report defects, process deviations, and non-conformances.
Support traceability requirements for battery materials and components.
Continuous Improvement
Contribute to improvements in safety, efficiency, and quality.
Assist in developing improved disassembly and recovery processes.
Support waste reduction and sustainability initiatives.
Participate in training and process improvement activities.
Skills & Experience
Essential
Good mechanical aptitude and practical hands-on skills.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to safe working practices.
Ability to follow work instructions and documented procedures.
Basic understanding of electrical systems.
Good teamwork and communication skills.
Comfortable working in a workshop or production environment.
Desirable
Ideally qualified to work with HV batteries (IMI level 4)
Experience working with lithium-ion batteries.
Previous battery disassembly, recycling, remanufacturing, or automotive technician experience.
Experience using battery testing or discharge equipment.
Knowledge of high-voltage safety principles.
Forklift, pallet truck, or materials handling experience.
Experience within manufacturing, recycling, engineering, automotive, or electronics industries.
