ROLE PURPOSE
To lead Mechanical Design and Project based activities in support of New Model Programmes and Current Engineering activities within the design engineering centre.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
QCD focused approach to product development
Responsible for generation and delivery of concept and manufacturing design definitions, based on technical specifications, requirements, relevant standards, and other constraints
Responsible for the conceptual development of new product solutions in the scoping phase of programmes.
Participate in developing and maintaining relevant engineering processes and procedures
Supporting the identification of business opportunities
Problem solving on existing products and product improvement
Responsible for evaluating technical issues in order to develop proposals for investigations and/or solutions
Planning, controlling and delivering assigned projects, ensuring requirements are delivered to plan, budget and costs
Preparing and delivering progress reports against project plans
Keeping up to date with relevant technology developments in appropriate technical areas, developing skills and capabilities, and giving support and expertise to others as required
Actively participate in business unit improvement activities
Where required, to manage engineers in both work activities and personal development
Where required, teach and mentor apprentices and/or graduates in your field of expertise
Support a continuous improvement culture across the Engineering team, contributing to a high performing environment
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
Mechanical Degree / HND or suitable Mechanical Engineering design experience
Have a minimum of 2 years experience working in an mechanical design role, ideally within: Automotive / Off-Highway / Military / Mining / Construction
CAD Knowledge (Ideally Solidworks or Creo)
Ability to create detailed drawings around Mechanisms, Hydraulics, Fabrications, Engineer Packaging etc.
Excellent fault finding skills.
Has demonstrated a good understanding of engineering organisations, support systems and processes
Team player.
Excellent verbal and written communicator
Ability to work independently or within a team environment
Excellent problem solver – able to work independently and also lead teams to problem solve
Have a hands-on approach to Engineering Design and development.

Ability to operate in continuous improvement environment
