Role: HSE Manager

The Role
Functional responsibility for the provision and maintenance of a safe and environmentally conscious workplace for our employees and visitors to our site, the containment and resolution of product and service non-conformities and the organisation, administration and review of the Integrated Management System that governs the Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) approach.
The Goal
Identify, and eliminate or control, risks that present a significant threat to the safety of the employees and visitors to the UK facilities.
For each significant risk identified, lead the prioritisation, containment, root cause analysis, and allocation of corrective actions and proactively expedite their completion with a focus upon preserving human safety above all else.
Identify, and eliminate or control, risks that present a significant threat to customers receiving products or services that fail to conform to their stated specification. For each significant risk identified, lead the containment, root cause analysis, and allocation of corrective actions prior to proactively expediting their completion with a focus upon mitigating associated impacts to customer sales order delivery commitments.
React immediately to incidents that present a significant risk to human safety and prioritise your personal time and resources to their control or elimination above all else. Second only to this will be your focus upon transparent communication of customer impacts and internal liability in the event of non-conformity.
The Objectives
Manage the organisation and administration of the company’s Integrated Management System (IMS) ensuring that procedures and processes are created, maintained to the required standard and corrected or improved in accordance with the recommendations of compliance audits by external certification bodies.
Coordinate area and task-specific risk assessments in cooperation with area supervisors, team leaders and operators to identify hazards that present a risk to our employees’ health and safety. Define, lead and manage the implementation of resulting corrective actions or control measures to eliminate these risks.
Conduct regular and detailed audits of the company’s HSE processes and procedures to identify good practice, opportunities for improvement and non-conformance. Work collaboratively with process owners to convey your observations and implement controlled revisions to improve their overall effectiveness.
Lead investigations into health, safety and environmental incidents and quality related non-conformities. Proactively manage containment and the implementation of corrective actions to eliminate root causes.
Establish yourself as the company’s competent person in relation to HSE matters providing professional guidance, direction and expert opinion based on a clear understanding of relevant legislation.
Accelerate and improve visual/verbal communications and engagement to further develop the HSE culture to embed awareness, responsibility and proactive intervention as a base employee expectations.
Qualifications & Skills
Clear communicator with the confidence to lead and motivate others to achieve planned outcomes.
Team oriented with the ability to recognise inter-functional customer/supplier relationships.
Focused on proactive prevention and logical identification of root cause.
Able to provide training and guidance in both formal and informal settings.
Organised and numerate with a systematic and disciplined approach to administration.
Practical IT skills proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint.
NEBOSH General Certificate.
Previous Experience
Demonstrable experience of quality and health and safety culture propagation.
Direct experience of leading external audits to ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 standards.
Practical experience in coordinating risk management activities.
Experience in conducting health and safety, quality and environment focused internal audits.
Demonstrable experience of leading incident investigation and root cause analysis activities.
