Manufacturing Engineer – Automation

Location: Southam, Warwickshire

Job Type: Permanent, Full Time

Hours: 37.5 hours per week

Salary: £35,000 – £45,000 per annum


Role Summary


We are seeking an innovative and driven Manufacturing Engineer – Automation to support the development, implementation, and optimisation of automated manufacturing processes. The successful candidate will be responsible for automation projects, supporting prototype production, programming and validating equipment, and ensuring manufacturing processes are robust, repeatable, and production-ready.

Working closely with Engineering, Production, Quality, and Technical teams, you will play a key role in introducing new products, improving manufacturing efficiency, and ensuring automated systems are safely and effectively integrated into production environments. Experience with battery technologies and high-voltage applications would be highly advantageous.


Key Responsibilities

  • Manage manufacturing and automation projects

  • Coordinate and support prototype production activities, ensuring processes are scalable and suitable for medium to high-volume manufacture.

  • Program, commission, and validate automated equipment and manufacturing systems to meet operational and quality requirements.

  • Support PPAP activities, ensuring automation equipment and manufacturing processes meet validation and approval requirements before production release.

  • Develop and maintain manufacturing documentation including work instructions, process flows, validation records, standard operating procedures, and risk assessments.

  • Monitor and report manufacturing performance data, productivity metrics, and process effectiveness to support continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Establish repeatable and robust manufacturing processes that ensure product quality, consistency, and efficiency.

  • Lead the handover of equipment, processes, and operational procedures to production teams following successful validation and commissioning.

  • Support and optimise CNC, automated, and manual manufacturing processes where required.

  • Investigate manufacturing issues, conduct root cause analysis, and implement corrective and preventative actions.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver new product introduction (NPI) and process improvement projects.

  • Ensure all manufacturing activities comply with quality, safety, and environmental standards.


Skills & Experience Required

  • Experience in a Manufacturing Engineer, Automation Engineer, Process Engineer, Mechatronics Engineer, or similar role.

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to troubleshoot manufacturing and automation issues effectively.

  • Proven project management skills and experience delivering engineering projects within agreed timelines and budgets.

  • Knowledge of automated manufacturing systems, industrial equipment, and process validation.

  • Experience with equipment programming, commissioning, and production support.

  • Understanding of manufacturing processes from prototype development through to production launch.

  • Experience working with battery technologies, high-voltage systems, or related manufacturing applications.

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.

  • Experience developing manufacturing documentation and reporting production performance metrics.

  • Good understanding of quality systems, continuous improvement methodologies, and manufacturing best practices.

  • Ability to analyse data and drive process improvements through evidence-based decision-making.


Skills & Experience Preferred

  • Level 4 High Voltage (HV) Certification, or equivalent practical experience working with battery systems and high-voltage environments.

  • Experience within battery manufacturing, EV, automotive, energy storage, or advanced manufacturing sectors.

  • Knowledge of PLC programming, industrial control systems, HMI development, and robotics.

  • Experience supporting automated production lines and machine vision systems.

  • Understanding of PPAP, FMEA, Control Plans, and production validation activities.

  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, 5S, or other continuous improvement methodologies.

  • Familiarity with Industry 4.0 technologies, data acquisition systems, and smart manufacturing principles.

  • Knowledge of CNC equipment, automated assembly systems, and process optimisation techniques.

  • Experience with electrical testing, commissioning, and equipment qualification activities.


Qualifications

  • Ideally a Degree in Robotics and Automation Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Control Systems Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.

  • Relevant industry certifications in automation, controls, robotics, or manufacturing engineering would be advantageous.

  • Additional qualifications relating to high-voltage systems or battery technologies would be beneficial.
